The Future Leaders in American Government Conference
The FLAG program is a civic engagement and leadership development program for high school students across the Mid-South . Our mission is to immerse students in the policy making process through a simulation of the United States Congress. To prepare our nation’s future leaders, delegates learn about the legislative process by assuming the role of a member of Congress.
Although we are similar to Model UN Conferences and debate programs, FLAG has some unique features. We are the nation’s only coordinated crisis conference. This means that every committee is connected with the other in an immersive simulation. Once delegates receive role sheets and committee assignments, they have the freedom to design their own unique path.
During the three days on campus, students are invited to attend scheduled speaker series and recreational events while enjoying free time to explore campus.
So, dive in! Explore the endless possibilities and events on our schedule, traverse the college campus of some of the nation’s top universities, and have a wonderful time.
Empowerment. Our mission is to provide high school students a platform to understand and engage in the intricacies of governance.
Simulation. FLAG is committed to providing a dynamic platform where young minds can come together to legislate real-world crises. We aim to foster critical thinking and problem-solving abilities by immersing students in an authentic legislative setting.

Dear Delegates and Parents,
We are thrilled to extend a warm invitation for the second and third sessions of the Future Leaders in American Government (FLAG) Conference.
FLAG 2024 is set to be the most dynamic event for high school students interested in politics and international policy. Our team has designed a multi-committee crisis simulation which will challenge delegates to craft policy, and hone their leadership skills all while having an amazing pre-collegiate experience. We have meticulously designed this event to offer you an authentic taste of the legislative world while meeting fellow students, professors, and leaders across the Mid-South.
While our primary focus is on the legislative process, FLAG is more than simply policy-making. You will have the chance to freely explore campus, attend speaker series, enjoy social events, and experience a sense of camaraderie that extends well beyond the conference.
Delegates from across the Mid-South are invited to attend either Session A or Session B. At both sessions we offer various committees based on standing U.S. Congressional Committees, each dealing with a different facet of governance and jurisdictional area. Prior to the conference date you will be given a highly detailed role and opportunity to choose the committee that aligns with your interests and expertise, all for a chance to win awards and recognition for your performance.
Feel free to explore our website and register by May 31, 2025. General information including registration deadlines, fees, committee options, and crisis instructions are also available online. The entire Secretariat are eager to kick things off this summer!
Our warmest regards,
Parth Dahima and Sukitha Gunasena
